Who is Gloria Bugie?
Singer Gloria Bugie recently rose to fame with her breakout song Nash, also known as Bankiyawa. The hit song, a lament about men and heartbreak, captivated social media and inspired hundreds of challenges on platforms like TikTok.
Her recent stage performances at the Acidic Vocals concert and later at the Comedy Store have pushed her deeper into the limelight, both for good and not-so-flattering reasons.
Since then, she has remained a central figure in online discussions and a topic of interest for entertainment pundits.
Early Life
The singer’s real name is Gloria Busingye. Her stage name, Bugie, she says, is a shortened version of her last name. She is a Ugandan of Rwandan descent who fought her way into the music scene at a young age.
The firstborn in her family, Bugie recalls discovering her singing talent in primary school, where she participated in singing competitions and was part of the school choir. She credits both of her parents for morally and financially supporting her music career.
When she moved to Uganda for her secondary education, she caught the attention of Eli Arkihis, a producer from Root Entertainment, who took her under his wing. She describes him as “the person who laid my foundation and has been very supportive everywhere.”
She released her first song Fire in 2019, followed by Only You, both produced by Arkihis. Since then, she has worked with others, including Izo Pro, Yo Kuki, and Daddy Andre, who produced her hit Bankiyawa.
Bugie is currently signed under Hit Boss Management.
Love Life
Bugie is not forthcoming about her relationships. However, she has listed a man’s top qualities as being caring, generous, and financially secure.
“That’s very important for me, and for any marriage,” she told Galaxy TV.
Controversies
The singer has faced harsh criticism for flaunting her body more than her vocal talent. Earlier this week, while performing at the Comedy Store, Bugie hit the stage in a revealing black lace bodysuit that left little to the imagination. The outfit, a one-piece with a backless design that tied at the neck and waist, sparked divided opinions on social media.
However, she insisted that she has the right to display both her music and the body God gifted her.
“Many people don’t have what I have, and many wish they did… I’m simply working with everything God has given me,” she said.
Is It Fake?
Bugie denies using auto-tune in her music. She responded in an interview with Cruise Exclusive to those mocking her performance at the Acidic Vocals concert.
“It was my first time on such a big stage, and I had stage fright,” she explained. “The sound on stage wasn’t that good either, and I had to raise my voice to try to figure it out,” she said.
Ambitions
Like any emerging artist, Bugie has many ambitions, one of them being to own a good car. Her dream cars include a Kia and a Range Rover. She also wants to collaborate with David Lutalo and Bebe Cool from Gagamel, whom she describes as very consistent and professional.
